Growing isn’t always easy. Growing pains are a real thing and in the eight short months that bloom has been open, we’ve outgrown our current space and are at capacity in a new temporary expansion space next door. That new temporary space is full of our Startup Stability Program selectees and the space is brimming with energy, excitement and a bit of nerves.
To grow is to stretch and change, often beyond what we thought was possible. It’s challenging, invigorating and sometimes frightening, but above all, it’s inspiring. The 26 entrepreneurs selected for this program and space at bloom are nothing short of inspiring.
They come from six different Hampton Roads cities and are founders of businesses in Healthcare and Family Services, Real Estate, Tourism and Recreation, Retail, Cybersecurity, Transportation and Business Services. All of them share the aspiration of entrepreneurship, the drive to be their own boss, make a difference, change their community or meet a need, and bloom is grateful to be the place that they can root and grow.
After a whirlwind construction project, their space was ready for occupancy. On July 21st we welcomed them as bloom members and it seemed fitting that their move-in aligned with the start of the Olympics, an event full of grit, determination, dreams and hope, not unlike embarking on the entrepreneurial journey. There’s nothing quite like the joy of seeing a business owner get the keys to their office for the first time. What a gift it is to be surrounded by these visionary individuals.
Some are taking leaps of faith to turn long-held dreams into reality, others were forced to make a change when the world turned upside down and their employment changed or shifted. Bloom opened to provide a space for those starting up, for those pivoting, for those who need to move away from their dining room table. We are here for it all, and grateful to follow these entrepreneurs through the next year of this program.
I’ve long loved the quote, “Leap and the net will appear.” That’s what these members are doing and we’re privileged to watch it happen. Keep an eye on this blog as we highlight their individual success stories in this program.
